The Apiary in Lexington Kentucky - Wedding video by Reel Special

The Apiary is well known as the premier southern wedding venue in Lexington, Kentucky

Colin and Shannon are two smart, sophisticated southern gems who couldn’t be a better match for one another. You can just tell these two are best friends, and we could sense that from the first moment we sat down to chat. We also realized pretty quickly into our conversation that their wedding was going to be absolutely incredible, especially when Shannon shared their wedding details included celebrating at the Apiary since it is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Lexington (and all of Kentucky)!

When the wedding day arrived, our first stop was at 21c Hotel in Lexington where Shannon and her bridesmaids were getting ready. The moment we walked in, renowned hair and makeup artist Ana Crane was putting the finishing touches on the bride and the bridesmaids were about to change into their beautiful dresses. We hung Shannon’s stunning wedding gown from the towering window that overlooked downtown Lexington and captured a couple quick shots for the wedding video.

And can we just swoon over Shannon’s dress for a moment? This elegant wedding gown appeared to be perfectly designed just for Shannon, and the moment she put it on the bridesmaids’ smiles spoke volumes about how beautiful she looked. We were fighting back the tears as Shannon sat on a cushioned bench and read the sweetest letter Colin had written to her. He shared how especially in the past year they had faced challenges and triumphs in their relationship, and he referenced a quote from one of their favorite Shakespeare sonnets which literally brought Shannon to tears. We so adore when couples write letters to one another, and we knew at that moment this was going to be an important element for the wedding video!

First Look at the Apiary

Colin and Shannon’s first look at the Apiary was simply precious.

It was soon time to head to the Apiary where Colin and Shannon would share their first look. Ryan quickly headed down to the wine cellar so he could capture some wedding video footage of Colin getting ready with his groomsmen. We worked alongside the talented Amy Campbell (Amy Campbell Photography) to plan the perfect first look spot, but let’s be honest…there really isn’t a bad spot in sight at the Apiary! Shannon hid away just long enough for Colin to make his way upstairs to the spot we picked out, and the moment they saw each other was simply priceless! Colin absolutely adored seeing his bride for the first time on their wedding day, and it was clear this sweet couple was ready to celebrate the day together.

The wedding ceremony was held at Central Christian Church in downtown Lexington. The minister was a dear friend of the bride and had the opportunity to see Colin and Shannon grow in their relationship. She highlighted their time together and how their love conquered anything that came their way. Both Colin and Shannon were full of emotion during their vows, and it was so special to see how much that moment meant to both of them. At one point during the ceremony, Colin’s grandmother recited the same quote from Shakespeare that Colin referenced in his letter to Shannon. What an incredible treasure that will be to look back many years from now and watch + listen to her sharing that part of the sonnet (spoiler alert: we felt like this was such a special part of the wedding ceremony that we included the reading at the end of the highlight video)! The newlyweds concluded the ceremony by sealing their vows with a kiss, and just like that we were packing up our wedding video gear and heading to the reception to celebrate with the couples’ loved ones.

The reception was held at the Apiary in downtown Lexington. An outdoor cocktail hour had guests mingling with one another while snacking on delicious hors d’oeuvres and sipping cocktails. Every detail of the day was executed perfectly thanks to the hard work of Camille Tucker and her team. The vibrant greenery provided by Elizabeth Earnest Florals served as the perfect compliments to the already-breathtaking wedding venue, and it didn’t hurt that the stormy skies broke just in time for guests to enjoy a perfect summer evening in one of Lexington’s most amazing outdoor spaces. The reception was capped off with a performance by the Encore Band that packed the dance floor with guests late into the evening.
