Doug and Shelby were married on May 21, 2016, on the Captain’s Quarters Yacht in Louisville, Kentucky and chose Reel Special Productions to capture their wedding video. Check it out below.

Doug and Shelby chose to have their wedding ceremony and reception on a private yacht called the Captain’s Quarters in Louisville.

A yacht y’all. You read that right. Doug and Shelby contacted us soon after they were engaged last year to talk about the epic wedding plans they made to tie the knot on a yacht. Oh buoy, we were pretty tickled at the thought of this opportunity! It’s kind of a videographer’s dream to take on a good challenge, especially one that involves a boat and a wedding video. Shelby’s mom was incredibly helpful in the planning process and the team they had lined up to make this day happen was a reel-ly special one! The thought of capturing this tidal wave of love had us flipping with excitement!

We first arrived at a hotel near the waterfront where we would later board the yacht. Matt and Kelsey with The Malicotes (aka Malicote Photography) had just arrived, too, and we were throwing up all the praise hands that we were filming this day with two of our besties! When we entered the bridal suite, we saw Dana of PinkLouLou Design Studio busy glamming the beautiful bride. The bridesmaids were hanging out, getting last minute makeup touches done while the flower girls were getting their hair and makeup done as well. We loved the few minutes we had to capture the preparations for the wedding video. This is a part in the day we love filming because it’s one that is so easily forgotten with the hustle and bustle of everything. It wasn’t long before it was time for Shelby to slip on her stunning Stella York gown from Twirl Boutique. We love how close Shelby is with her mom and that was so apparent in how Shelby’s mom was there to help her with every detail of the day, even slipping on Shelby’s sparkly high heels.

The Louisville Yacht Club was just across from where this epic wedding video footage was captured!

The Captain’s Quarters Yacht Club in Louisville, Kentucky was a beautiful setting to capture some epic wedding video footage!

Ryan and Matt headed down to where the guys were getting ready to capture some preparation shots for the wedding video. Doug was hanging out and trying to relax, but he was definitely ready to see his bride. After getting his bowtie on and donning his jacket, Doug was ready to open the sweet gift Shelby had gotten him. His reaction to her card and gift was priceless and everyone in the room was feeling the love. Doug adores Shelby, there’s no doubt about that!

Once Doug and Shelby were both ready, it was time to head down to the waterfront at Captain’s Quarters where the couple would share their first look. We’re pretty sure the Lord was shining his light on this moment, because the clouds broke just in time without a drop of rain in the sky. Shelby gracefully walked down a sidewalk beside the Ohio River to her groom and we’re pretty sure she left him speechless as he turned around. He was smitten and SO excited to be sailing away with her! With a few minutes to spare, we were able to capture some footage for the wedding video of the bride and groom together with their bridal party and family. Thanks to the detailed planning and excellent organizational skills by Jessica Meadors Thomas with Allow Me Events, everything ran smoothly and before we knew it guests were boarding in preparation for the ceremony.

The ceremony took place while the boat was docked at the Captain’s Quarters, and how cool is this?! The captain of this stunning vessel is the one who officiated the ceremony! The bride and groom added another special touch with their personal written wedding vows. You all, these two share the love! Their vows reflected a commitment to building a life of faith, hope and love with one another no matter what may come their way. These are vows we know they will cherish as they watch their wedding video for years to come. It wasn’t long before Doug and Shelby sealed their vows with a kiss and the captain announced the couple as the newly Mr. and Mrs. They did it! They tied the knot on a yacht and now it was time to set sail and celebrate!

Once the captain departed from the dock, we managed to sneak the newlyweds off for a few minutes to get some shots for the wedding video. Soon after, guests were invited to the top level of the yacht to enjoy drinks and company before dinner was served. Doug and Shelby mingled with some of their guests before making their way back down to the bottom level where they sat at the Mr. and Mrs. table, which just so happened to be at the head of the boat. Guests enjoyed a tasty meal and enjoyed the beautiful sail to downtown Louisville on the Ohio River. Ryan might have hit it off pretty well with the captain and talked him into staying in the downtown area a bit longer just so he could capture some EPIC aerial footage with his drone. We won’t even begin to tell you the thrill and challenge that was! We’d have to say this was a pretty memorable wedding and we especially loved all the dancing that took place as we cruised up and down the river. So. Much. Fun!
