Nick and Lilly were married in a beautiful wedding in Hyde Park, Cincinnati, on September 5, 2020, and Reel Special got to capture their wedding video.
Nick and Lilly have the sweetest love story. The two met in Lexington while Lilly was at the University of Kentucky finishing nursing school. Nick was playing professional baseball for the Cleveland Indians but spent his off-season in Lexington, so when he returned he took Lilly on a date to the Grey Goose restaurant on Jefferson Street downtown.
Their first trip together was to Chicago, so naturally, Nick proposed to Lilly on a return trip to the Windy City, and together they started planning their dream wedding. While the original plans were to have the wedding and reception at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the couple to relocate their wedding to Lilly’s hometown of Cincinnati. Thanks to her parents’ willingness to host the wedding reception at their beautiful Hyde Park home, what resulted was an absolutely incredible event that could not have been more perfect.
The wedding ceremony took place at Our Lord Christ the King Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Nick and Lilly opted not to do a first look for the wedding photos or wedding video, so the moment when Nick saw his bride walking towards him was extra special. The priest shared a beautiful message by challenging the couple to center their relationship on Christ and always seek to serve each other selflessly. After the couple exchanged wedding vows, they were pronounced husband and wife!
Lilly’s grandmother was not able to attend the ceremony due to health concerns related to the pandemic, so following the ceremony, the newlyweds and the Rohde family headed over to the retirement community where she lived so they could spend a few minutes with her on such a special day. Her grandmother teared up as Lilly and Nick approached…cue ALL the tears as we captured footage for Nick and Lilly’s wedding video!
After a few minutes at the retirement home, we then headed to the Rohde’s home in Hyde Park for the wedding reception. The moment Nick and Lilly stepped foot inside the home, they were stunned at the incredible transformation that took place thanks to the all-star team of wedding vendors, most notably Shelly Fortune Events & Design and their amazing florist, Marti Heard.
In the backyard, a platform was placed over the pool to create a platformed dance floor, and giant letters from Alpha-Lit Lexington were the perfect touch to highlight Nick and Lilly’s newlywed status. The reception featured an incredible plated dinner for the guests, followed by the cake cutting and special dances. Once the formalities were complete, the dance floor opened up and the party kicked into gear with the help of (insert band name here).
