Wes and Lauren met in college. Both were NCAA Division I athletes; Wes played soccer for South Carolina, and Lauren ran track for the Gamecocks. As their relationship grew, the two made the move to the bluegrass with Wes completing his residency in osteopathic medicine at the University of Kentucky, and Lauren joining as a distance runner for the Wildcats.
Life’s journeys continued to take them to new places, and the couple has lived both in Georgia and Florida. When it came time to make wedding plans, they faced many obstacles and had to change course several times due to the pandemic but ultimately landed on having their wedding in central Kentucky at Apiary, an absolutely stunning venue on Jefferson Street in the heart of downtown Lexington.
The wedding day arrived, and we first headed to capture the fellas getting ready at a friend’s home in downtown Lexington. Wes and his groomsmen were hanging out, shooting pool, and sharing celebratory toasts with one another while the girls were enjoying their time together at an awesome Airbnb in the Distillery District. One of our favorite parts when filming the preparations for the wedding video is documenting the downtime with the couple’s closest friends. By the time the wedding day comes and goes, there are so many moments that fade to the back and the preparations usually fall into this category. Having wedding video footage allows our couples to remember more vividly this time with their loved ones.

Wes and Lauren did not want to see each other before the wedding ceremony, but both of them did special “first looks” with family members which were so special. When the wedding ceremony began, we made sure to get a great shot of Wes’ reaction to seeing Lauren as she walked down the aisle. Is there anything better than seeing the groom’s face when he sees his bride for the first time on their wedding day? No. No there is not. 🙂
The ceremony featured funny stories, beautiful vows, and concluded with Lauren and Wes being pronounced husband and wife. The couple sealed their marriage with a kiss, then we quickly made an exit to a party bus and headed to Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, to capture portrait photos and epic wedding video footage.
Seeing Wes and Lauren together as a married couple brought smiles to everyone’s faces…there was so much joy and laughter as we moved about the magnificent garden at Ashland. We loved having the opportunity to get some unique, creative wedding video shots with the bride and groom alongside our good friends and incredibly talented photographers, Claire and Barrett.
After the fun photo sesh with the wedding party, we returned to Apiary at the tail end of the cocktail hour and got into position to film the introduction of the newest of newlyweds, Dr. and Mrs. Wes Troyer. The couple had their first dance, shared a quick thank you to their loved ones, then everyone was treated to the most delectable meal by the renowned chefs and staff at Apiary.
The reception included beautiful speeches from the maid of honor and the best man, followed by the cake cutting and special dances before Wes and Lauren’s guests danced the night away. And speaking of dancing, can we just say how sweet it was when Lauren’s family led everyone in two Macedonian dances, a tradition that has been a part of her family’s wedding celebrations for generations.
The conclusion of the evening was one that will not soon be forgotten. Wes and Lauren shared a joy-filled dance together in an empty Apiary ballroom as guests lined the garden pathway for an impressive sparkler sendoff, then made their way to the exit and departed in style compliments of a snow-white vintage Bentley. It was magical and the perfect end to a perfect wedding day.
