We are so excited to announce that Reel Special Productions has been selected for the Bride’s Choice Award by WeddingWire in 2012!

WeddingWire is part of the Martha Stewart network (which includes WeddingWire.com, MarthaStewartWeddings.com, ProjectWedding.com, and several other sites), and this award is just a huge honor for us! What’s even better is the fact that this award is not given to us by a panel of random judges, but rather it is a direct result of the feedback received from our clients!

Reel Special Productions is so grateful to each client who took the time to provide a review of our services, and we are just so humbled to have had the opportunity to work with so many great couples this past year.

We’re expecting great things in the New Year, and are so excited to work with all those brides who have already booked us for 2012!

And if you’re a bride on the fence about whether or not you want a wedding video from Reel Special Productions, contact us today and let us share the reasons why you can’t afford not to have us capture your wedding!

Lexington Kentucky wedding video by Reel Special Productions, Central Kentucky’s premier wedding film cinematographers who are passionate about capturing special moments and the smallest details.

Of the many, many wedding videos Reel Special Productions has produced at locations in Kentucky and its surrounding states, we can think of no more beautiful spot than Talon Winery.  This spectacular gem sits on the outskirts of Lexington and plays host to dozens of concerts, weddings, and other special events throughout the year.

On the last Saturday in May, however, the winery draped its picturesque backdrop around the wedding of Lucas and Morgan, an adorable young couple whose courtship spans more than a decade.

From the bridal party’s preparations to the last few dances, Reel Special was there to capture moments that we hope Morgan, Lucas, and their loved ones will treasure for a lifetime.

Morgan, thank-you for choosing us to film your incredible wedding day, and congrats to you and Lucas!

On October 23, my gorgeous wife Brittany and I celebrated our first year of marriage!  To celebrate an amazing first year AND the countless hours she spent by my side filming a dozen weddings this spring, summer, and fall, I surprised her with a trip to Disney World in December (she’s never been there before!).  If you’ve met me, then you probably have already heard me say this, but marrying Brittany was the best decision I’ve ever made and I can’t wait to celebrate our first year together over Christmas break in Orlando!

And I also have to share this:  Each anniversary, we’re going to take a photo of ourselves holding the photo we took a year prior (on our anniversary).  The result?  An anniversary photo of us holding an anniversary photo of us holding an anniversary photo…well…you get the idea!  We’re creating visual timeline!  Doesn’t that sound like fun?!  So, here’s our first photo, but we decided to hold a photo from our wedding day!

The story goes something like this; Mark (the groom) is one of Ryan’s best friends.  Nicole (the bride) is one of Brittany’s best friends.  Ryan and Brittany weren’t planning on shooting a wedding video until the day before the “big day”…but we just couldn’t stop thinking about how special our own wedding video is to us even though it wasn’t “Reel Special” quality (we obviously weren’t able to man the cameras for our own wedding).

Ryan was one of the groomsmen; Brittany made the wedding cake and helped coordinate a myriad of wedding day plans.  But despite sharing those important roles, Brittany was able to capture the ceremony and Ryan filmed during the post-ceremony photo shoot.

We are so blessed to have such a close friendship with Mark and Nicole, and we were thrilled to be able to capture enough footage to provide them with this highlight video.  Congratulations, you two!  We love you both!

Leonard Bernstein once said that “Music can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable.”

Jeremy and Misty’s wedding ceremony at Estes Chapel in Wilmore, Kentucky, was a stunning example of the power of music and the ability it carries to unite human souls with a love that surpasses words.

You see, Misty studied at Julliard and now works at the famed Carnegie Hall.  Jeremy earned his degree in vocal music education and is gifted musically as well.

The two were brought together by Misty’s cousin and Jeremy’s best friend from high school, Phil Stacey, who is also an accomplished musician, Christian singer/songwriter, and a former American Idol finalist (check out his website at philstacey.com).

Besides a ceremony filled with worshipful musical performances, the reception also featured a phenomenal three-piece jazz trio and several special tunes sung by the bride, groom, and the bride’s father.

Most importantly, Jeremy and Misty’s wedding day was centered around the love they share for their friends, their family, and their Creator.  Throughout the evening, loved ones told story after story about the passion Jeremy and Misty share for using their talents to bless others.

We were so honored to capture this special day for such an amazing couple, and we’re looking forward to seeing how God orchestrates their lives together to make a positive impact in this world.

To quote Leonard Bernstein again, “The key to the mystery of a great artist is that for reasons unknown, he will give away his energies and his life just to make sure that one note follows another… and leaves us with the feeling that something is right in the world.”

Jeremy and Misty, we hope you find unending joy in following Christ together as you chase after the great things He has in store for you!

My wife and I spent the weekend in New York City and had an absolutely wonderful time exploring!  We did all the touristy-stuff (Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, Times Square, etc.), went to a Broadway show (the Lion King…WOW!), a Yankees game, and even made the trek over to Serendipity 3 (made famous by a movie with the same name).  My feet are still recovering, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way!  We saw and experienced so much this past weekend, and I’m so thankful that I had an opportunity to spoil her with such a fun trip!

Now that I’m shooting with several new Canon cameras and lenses, I’m constantly thinking about and trying different creative approaches.  I arrived in NYC a day before Brittany since I was there on business, but I wasn’t about to pass up an opportunity to capture NYC through a couple lenses.  I didn’t have all my gear and was very limited on “free time”; all the images you’ll see in the video above were captured over about a two-hour period, and if you know anything about NYC, you’ll understand how much ground I covered in such a short time span.  I shot everything at 60 FPS so I could test out my camera’s slow-motion capabilities; the color saturation was dropped out a bit to give it more of a film-like appearance.

Of course, I just had to include a song from Frank Sinatra, and this morning in the shower (while listening to Pandora), his tune “How About You” came on which includes the lyrics “I love New York in June…”…how fitting!

Here’s another video which captured the moment that Alex Rodriguez hit a home run against the Cleveland Indians!

And last but not least, if I had more time, more gear, and LOTS more money, I would have spent some time putting together a time-lapse like this one by Mindrelic:

“This is the first day of the rest of your life.”

The lyrics in this song could not be any more true for Nick and Ashley, an incredibly sweet couple who figured out one of life’s biggest secrets: Love WILL hold us together.

We had the privilege of capturing Nick and Ashley’s wedding at the beautiful Bodley Bullock House in Lexington. Both the bride and groom were beaming with excitement in the hours leading up to the ceremony, and we were spoiled to have the opportunity to film such a momentous event in a picturesque historic home nestled in the heart of downtown Lexington.

Nick and Ashley, congratulations on starting your new life together and thanks for letting us be a part of your beautiful day!

You’ll be hard-pressed to find two people in this world that share a wider smile than Jana and Gabriel.

We arrived at the family farm to capture their wedding day and were met by a light mist and overcast skies, but by the time the ceremony had begun, their faces and their faith shined brightly and warmed the hearts of many.

Less than one year ago, we had the privilege of filming Jana’s sister Amy marry Ryan. While these sisters planned and painted their special days with vastly different brushstrokes, the artistic elements of both events matched perfectly with their personalities.

Much like Jana and Gabe, the shots featured in this video just seemed to flow purely and naturally in front of our cameras. We certainly hope you can appreciate the authenticity and uniqueness of their day as you view some of the more memorable highlights we witnessed.

And to Jana & Gabe, your ceremony and reception were full of thought and absolutely beautiful. Thank-you for letting us share in your special day.

While in Las Vegas on a business trip (which I extended for personal pleasure), I wandered around with my new Canon DSLR and had some fun capturing various footage.  The HD video quality on these new cameras is AMAZING!  In fact, I’m selling all my old gear and upgrading to DSLRs!

This is my story.  Our story.  Brittany and I were married on October 23, 2010…just two days before my 30th birthday…and my life hasn’t been the same since.  Brittany is my better half and my best friend.  I hope you enjoy a glimpse in to our special day!

We are the owners of Reel Special Productions, a wedding video company based in Lexington and serving Lexington, Louisville, and beyond.  We have the honor of capturing scores of wedding videos each year, and we would love the opportunity to talk with you about plans for your wedding day. If you haven’t given much thought to having a wedding video, I hope you will read on.

I will never forget the moment the doors in the back of the church opened to reveal my bride. As a nervous but very excited groom, I was overwhelmed with emotion when the girl I was about to marry started walking down the aisle, and all I could think about was how breathtakingly beautiful she looked (there was literally an audible gasp that can be heard from our guests…no joke!). I tried to fight back the tears, but in that moment I was so filled with thankfulness that I had not only found my best friend and soulmate, but we were making a covenant to spend the rest of our lives together through thick and thin, for better or worse.

From there, the rest is mostly a blur, and I’m writing to you today to encourage you not to make the same mistake many other brides make on their wedding day.

Thankfully, my wife and I can relive the most special moments from our wedding day (including the “gasp,” the look on my face when those doors opened, and the several times we both broke down crying during the ceremony!) simply because we chose to have a professional wedding video. Granted, due to budget limitations we didn’t get everything we wanted with our wedding videographer, but we certainly don’t regret making a reasonable investment to have our day captured.

If you’ve planned like most brides up to this point, the decision of whether or not to hire a wedding video often comes near the end of the planning process, long after the budget has been blown (and just before the father of the bride starts applying for a second job to pay for your wedding of the century).

But why do so many brides wait until the last minute to hire a videographer? Many wise wedding planners have offered this important truth: As a bride, you won’t realize what you’ve missed until it’s too late. (Don’t believe us? Check out this article or this video!)

Hopefully by now you’re realizing that now is the time to adjust your budget. The next step is to seek out videographers that can capture your wedding in the ways you have always dreamed using the best equipment and the most creative approach. Keep in mind that there are many so-called “videographers” who have flooded the marketplace, but there are very few who have the ability to tell a story by producing a wedding video that will evoke the exact same emotions you felt on your wedding day. Be certain you check samples of their work, and we highly recommend meeting with each vendor before you decide whether or not to hire them for your wedding day.

Last but certainly not least, your investment in a professional wedding video will have value for generations to come. While it may be difficult to imagine today, I can think of few greater treasures than to pass on a copy of your wedding video to your kids and grandkids when you and your spouse have grown old and gray.

After the countless hours you will have invested in planning and preparing for your wedding day, don’t take the chance of missing the details that helped make your day truly special.

Sincerely,
Ryan & Brittany Worthen
