Joe and Kayse contacted us awhile back after both checking out our work online. They were planning a small, intimate family ceremony and reception and wanted a wedding video to remember this special occasion. This wonderful couple has been together for a little over 14 years and finally decided to tie the knot, so it was a huge honor for us to document this very special day for them. After they reached out to us and told us their unique and somewhat challenging plans for a wedding ceremony, we knew right away this was a wedding we wanted to film.

We first arrived at the cabin at Red River Gorge Retreats. Joe met us at the bottom of the driveway as he was waiting on the food truck to arrive. Yes, that’s right, a food truck (more on that later)! After greeting Joe, we drove up the steep hill to meet Kayse and the rest of her family. Kayse had just slipped on her dress and was eager for what was to come. After seeing some ominous clouds roll into the area, we were getting a bit nervous about the weather but everyone kept such a positive attitude that we just rolled with it. We captured some great wedding video footage of Kayse then loaded up our gear and headed out to the Red River Gorge where we would soon begin our hike down to the ceremony site.

The ceremony was full of heartfelt moments and there wasn't a dry eye in holler.

The ceremony took place off a breathtakingly-beautiful trail in the Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Joe and Kayse hiked this trail several times and knew exactly where they wanted to get married. We hiked down the trail with Joe, one of the photographers and some family members. Fortunately, the rain had just let up minutes before we started hiking so our equipment and clothing stayed dry (well, besides a little sweat from the hike!). As we were waiting on Kayse and her father to reach the ceremony site, Ryan was able to capture some footage of Joe for the wedding video while Brittany helped get everyone into place. Joe hung two baskets of gorgeous flowers in place to create a makeshift aisle.

It was evident that this couple shared a very deep love for one another. When Joe saw Kayse for the first time, and he had a hard time making it through the vows he had written for his new wife. It was so precious! The ceremony also included readings from several family members (including this bit awesome little bit from Calvin and Hobbes) After they sealed their marriage with a kiss, a special toast was shared with the family before starting the hike back to the top.

Everyone headed back to the cabin to finish setting up for the reception while Joe and Kayse stayed behind to get some incredible photos and wedding video footage. As we were nearing the top of the trail, the rain started pouring down but fortunately we were able to hurry back to our cars so that we could quickly make our way to the cabin.

The Rolling Oven pizza food truck was brought in to cater the small family reception.

The reception was held at a penthouse cabin at Red River Gorge Retreats. Joe, Kayse and their families did a magnificent job setting up the table scape for their intimate reception (and did you see the table décor on the wedding video? Amazing! It seemed to be right out of a magazine and had such an “Anthropologie” feel to it!) Right on cue before the reception was scheduled to begin, the rain stopped and everyone joined around the table outside to watch Kayse share a sweet dance with her Dad. Following their dance, Rolling Oven Pizza served up a variety of handmade pizzas from their food truck. And for dessert? In place of cutting a cake, Joe and Kayse shared a blackberry cobbler cupcake from Gigi’s Cupcakes! Needless to say, considering Brittany’s strong affection for Gigi’s confections, this wedding was a match made in heaven!

Every element of this wedding was incredibly special. Joe and Kayse were such a fun couple to be around and their families treated us as their very own. We hope and pray that Joe and Kayse will love watching their wedding video as much as we loved filming it. Every detail of this wedding was perfectly planned and flawlessly carried out. We wish you two the best!
