Is it time for brands to quit Facebook? 1Well that’s just great. Facebook revealed today that brands will receive even less visibility on their social media platform.

According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the decision is intended to motivate people to spend more time engaging with content posted by their friends and family, and less with publishers and brands.

So what does this mean for us wedding video + wedding photography folks? Is it time to throw in the towel and say farewell or at least hit the pause button on uploading content to your Facebook page?

Not a chance. I don’t know about you, but we’re not going to change a thing in how we use Facebook to build our business: Connect and engage day in and day out. This process has served us well for years and until we stop getting inquiries and views on Facebook, we’re going to continue working towards building our brand — and more importantly — relationships — on that platform.

Now that being said, we’re not putting all our eggs in Facebook’s basket and I hope you don’t, either. If you haven’t started diversifying with other social media platforms, now is the time. We have had tremendous success attracting clients on Instagram (which is owned by Facebook), so if you haven’t spent much time building your presence there, why not start now? There’s also Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, and the list goes on.

Even if sites like Instagram follow the same approach as Facebook with fewer brand posts and more personal content, that will only make it more rewarding when you attract new clients by following the tried and true method of connecting and engaging with others.
